I’ve always loved King Syrup. There’s something about that rich, buttery maple flavor that makes everything it touches taste better. Whether it’s poured over pancakes and waffles, added to baked goods, or used to glaze meat, King Syrup brings out the best in any recipe.
Recently, I became determined to find King Syrup in its original packaging – those charming retro glass bottles. As a lover of all things vintage, I adore the old-timey look of the glass King Syrup bottles. There’s just something so nostalgic and appealing about them. The way the amber syrup glows through the transparent glass is so beautiful. Plus, I think food and drink simply tastes better when served in glass.
So began my mission to track down the beloved King Syrup in its classic glass bottle container. This turned out to be quite the challenge! Here is the story of my quest to find the perfect King Syrup glass bottle.
The Hunt Begins
The first stop on my search was my local grocery store. I headed to the syrup aisle with high hopes. Unfortunately, all they had was King Syrup in plastic squeeze bottles. Not a glass container in sight. I checked the baking aisle…nothing. Not willing to give up that easily, I asked the staff if they had any King Syrup glass bottles hidden away somewhere. Sadly, they did not.
Next, I made the rounds of big box stores like Walmart and Target. No luck there either. Plenty of maple syrup options, but no sign of old fashioned glass King Syrup bottles. I even checked the natural food stores and gourmet grocers – still, my search was fruitless.
Where had all the iconic King Syrup glass bottles gone? Were they discontinued? The nostalgia-lover in me was not ready to accept that. There had to be some still out there somewhere….and I was determined to find them!
The Hunt Goes Online
Since brick-and-mortar stores were failing me, I turned to the internet in hopes of locating my beloved glass King Syrup bottles. I happily discovered that yes – they do still exist! However, they are not always easy to find in stock online.
My first order attempt was unsuccessful. While the website claimed to have the King Syrup glass bottles in stock, they later cancelled my order due to lack of availability. I had to be persistent in my search!
After clicking through multiple online stores and marketplaces, I finally struck gold. I located a specialty food retailer that had not only the 16 oz glass bottles in stock, but also the extra large 32 oz bottles! I instantly bought 2 of each size.
The King Syrup glass bottles were not cheap, costing $12.99 for the 16 oz and $19.99 for the 32 oz sizes. But to me, it was worth it for the nostalgia factor and the sturdy, reusable glass packaging. I eagerly awaited their arrival!
Sweet Victory!
When the box containing my prized King Syrup glass bottles arrived on my doorstep, it was a glorious moment! I carefully unpacked each bottle, admiring their retro design.
The 16 oz bottles stood about 8 inches tall – squat little bottles with the classic King Syrup label depicting a crown and three diamonds. The larger 32 oz bottles were more slim and elegant, towering 12 inches tall in the same 50s-style packaging.
Both sizes featured the iconic King Syrup font and logo. A smiling royal figure wearing a crown topped each bottle. The fanciful graphic reminded me of the magical feeling I’d get as a child when my family would go out for pancakes and I’d get to drizzle on the King Syrup. It transported me back to those happy, carefree weekend breakfasts.
Gazing at the warm amber color of the syrup through the transparent glass, I couldn’t wait to twist off those metal caps and start pouring this liquid gold.
Taste Testing the Treasured Syrup
For my first taste test, I decided to enjoy the King Syrup the classic way – drizzled over a stack of fluffy pancakes! The moment I poured the syrup from the glass bottle, I was impressed by its thick, rich texture. This was no thin, artificial syrup – I could tell it was made of pure maple goodness.
As I bit into my syrup-soaked pancakes, the flavor was incredible! The King Syrup had a perfect maple taste – slightly sweet with a pleasant, woodsy flavor. It was so superior to the fake maple syrups I’d tried in plastic bottles. This was the real deal.
To fully appreciate the syrup’s flavor, I did a spoonful taste test on its own. Straight out of the bottle, the King Syrup was smooth and buttery on the tongue. It had a nice maple aroma as well. This was clearly a high quality, authentic maple syrup.
Beyond pancakes, I experimented with using my King Syrup glass bottles for sweetening everything from waffles to oatmeal. The flavor elevated each dish. I also discovered that the thick, rich syrup performed wonders in baking recipes, giving cakes, cookies and muffins a delicious maple flavor.
Versatile Glass Bottles
Aside from containing a tasty syrup, the King Syrup glass bottles themselves became prized kitchen possessions of mine.
I loved how the clear glass allowed me to view the beautiful amber syrup color – so much more appetizing than an opaque plastic bottle. The retro labeling also added a fun, vintage vibe to my kitchen.
Once I’d used up the syrup, I discovered the King Syrup glass bottles were wonderfully versatile. Their thick glass felt very durable, and the screw-on metal caps created an airtight seal. This made the bottles perfect for storing and gifting all sorts of homemade ingredients.
So far, I’ve reused my bottles to contain maple granola, homemade pancake mix, infused maple oils, maple sugar scrubs and more. For wedding favors, I even filled some with custom maple candy!
The bottles keep the contents fresh while adding a unique, retro touch. And of course, the glass bottles are fully reusable and recyclable. I’ll definitely be reordering more empty King Syrup bottles once my current supply runs out!
The Hunt Continues…
While I’m thrilled to have found the 16 oz and 32 oz sizes, my King Syrup glass bottle collection still has some gaps.
On my wishlist is tracking down the super rare 1 gallon glass jug that King Syrup was originally sold in. This would be the holy grail of my collection! I’m also hoping to find some of the vintage 1960s and 70s King Syrup glass bottles with the old graphic designs – those would be such a cool piece of food history.
Part of the fun is always having new glass bottle hunts to go on (though admittedly, it can get expensive!) For now, I’ll keep searching online and in antique shops, ever hopeful that I’ll uncover rare King Syrup sizes and designs.
Of course, I’ll need to pace myself to actually use up the syrup inside those bottles. But something tells me that enjoying every sweet drop of King Syrup – especially out of the iconic glass bottles – won’t be a problem!
